Katy’s Wild Foal begins on Katy’s birthday and follows the story of a newborn foal that she discovers on Exmoor just as snow is forecast. Katy is mesmerized by her unexpected discovery and longs to take the foal back to her parents farm. Her father, however, is adamant that she should not have a pony so how will she persuade her family?

This is an engaging and beautifully written story that took me straight back to my Pony Club days. It tells the tale of Katy’s pleas to own the foal and also how she learns to about caring for a pony and riding. It is full of insightful facts about the Exmoor pony society and information about the Exmoor breed itself. There are some lovely illustrations at the beginning of each chapter too.

This is a highly recommended read, especially for any horse lovers out there. I am so pleased that it is the first in the trilogy!
